Delhi metro has completed 15 years of its fleet. From its 8.5 km line in 2005 to 231 km in 2018, Delhi metro has covered many milestones and witnessed many events. Here is a look at facts and events on how the journey of bringing metro in the city has been.
Baby born in Delhi Metro
Maitree also known as ‘metro baby’ was born in a metro coach. On July 22,2012, her mother was on her way for a pre-natal checkup. She suddenly went into labor on her way and delivered her baby in the coach.
Earthquake Resistant
Delhi Metro stations can withstand earthquakes that can measure up to 7.5 Ritcher scale.
Women Lead
Out of 8629 total employees, 595 employees are females.
Security Threat
Fearing bomb threats there were no dustbins and toilets in the metro stations. DMRC began making toilets from 2007 onward and provided dustbins from 2015.
Highest and deepest points
The deepest station on DMRC will be 29 metres deep.The highest point crosssing Dhaula Kuan measures 23.6 metres high.
Station Color
Initially, the station walls was cream color so that it does not distract motorists on the road.
Challenge
The challenge in the execution of DMRC project was the lack of experience of planning, designing, developing a world class metro. Involving international experts solved this challenge.
Financial Challenge
Japan International Cooperation Agency had offered a loan to ease the financial outlay.
Pickpocketers
373 cases of pickpockets who were caught. according to CISF reports 329 pickpockets were women till July 2017.
